Another Sample clip from Meditations! Check it out!

Hello everyone!
Here's another sample of a raw audio file from my new CD... Please know that you can still support the recording session by clicking on the link below. So far the support has been tremendous! I'm well on my way towards my goal and the outpouring of support has been awesome. I'm well over $1000 in support and that has helped a great deal.

What you hear is a live on-site recording session at a fantastic chapel outside of Boston. This is a raw, un-edited sample for you to check out. The Reverb you hear is the natural reverb!

For gearheads I'm using my Yamaha 631 Flugelhorn with a Wedge 3FLX SST mouthpiece.

Trio and quartet members receive multiple live-takes from the session, video from the session, and more...

Enjoy the clip!

Very raw sample available below!

I got the first rough mix today! Woo-hoo! I really am excited about the project and think it will be something very exciting and special.

Here's a two-minute sample clip for your listening pleasure. Please note that this is extremely raw-audio and it hasn't been professionally (other than me fooling around on my $20 software) edited. I'm noodling on the piano and playing the trumpet at the same time.

Enjoy!

Trio and Quartet members will receive a 320 bit mp3 later this evening. Sign up now as a partner in the session to receive exclusive audio clips, video clips, and more!

Thanks again for all of your support and encouragement. Stay tuned!

Recording updates from today!

Well....  I survived!   When I finished my recent three hour session I was really  a  bit bummed.
  • Did I  expect that this would be easy?
  • Am I putting too much pressure on myself?
  • IS there even a chance that this session is going to be a success?
You know how we are always harder on ourselves than anyone else.   I want this project to be so great due to all of your support and encouragement that I think I was putting a bit more pressure on myself than was to be expected.   When I got done I really didn't know what to think.  Part of me was thinking I just had wasted a lot of time and effort.  Playing solo trumpet is like playing the circus.  Well,  there are no clowns in the studio... which is fortunate as I get a little freaked out by clowns ;)

I tried not to listen to the clips but I wanted to check out the clips in case I had to cancel the project.    Like I said,   often I jump to conclusions.    I thought that they would be terrible and I'd never survive making this project.    To my surprise the clip I listened to sounded pretty good.  That was the low-fi Sony recording I made unlike the high quality studio setup that Ryan and Ed are recording with.   So....  we'll see what happens.  I'll have a lot of initial  listening,  critiquing,  crying,  and mixing.   It should be very exciting.

Thanks again for checking in.  I'll have up video and a sample audio soon!    Cheers,

T

Equipment to be used...

I've been asked by a few of you about what I'll be using on the session. The tenative plan is for the following instruments to be used:

1. Sonare' tr800s Bb (stock slide). 50-60% of the disc will be on this horn
2. Yamaha 631 Flugel 20%
3. Schilke P5-4 10% (probably one piece)
4. '39 Martin Handcraft 10% (ditto)

Mouthpieces:
all mouthpieces will be Wedge pieces. The one I'm using the most is the new 3MC SST with a 25 throat Dr. Dave recently crafted. On the flugel I'll use the 3XLX SST and on pic the 3C SST.

Microphones:

So far here's the list of mics we're going to use. Thanks to your support I could muster up some real nice mics:

AMT Studio 800. for close mike sound and consistency (this mic is amazing!) I know a lot of heavies are using this mic for some great CDs. I recently recorded this clip on my laptop with the AMT http://tindeck.com/listen/hmbs and I think it sounds fantastic! In a professional studio it will be great.

Vintage Ribbon (RCA) and Neumann TBA about two feet away
Two Royer Ribbons 15-20' away for room sound.
The preamps the studio has are fabulous as well. That's why we can use some great ribbon mics which IMO are the best for trumpet.

We have other ideas as well but it will really depend on what we get from the initial setup.

Thanks again for your support and stay tuned for sneak peeks soon!

Recording session #2 tomorrow!

Hello everyone!

Just a quick update.... The next recording session will be tomorrow, 3/16. Thanks to all of your incredible support I've been able to upgrade this project considerably. Here are some of the key upgrades:

1. I hired a great engineer for the session... Ryan Parker (who helped perform and produce my previous two discs).

2. I'm going to a fantastic studio to record. My friend Ed Gleason's studio here:
http://www.maxoutstudios.com/studio/index.htm Ed has a wonderful sounding space as well as great gear! I've recorded there before with fantastic results.

3. I've already been in touch with some incredible mastering pros (who win a few Grammy awards yearly) for post-production.

4. I've contacted people already for the layout and have a fabulous start on the layout for this disc. It will be funky, cool, and eco-friendly all at the same time. The staff at www.oasiscd.com again rise to the challenge!

This project is truly a team effort thanks to all of you great fans! Stay tuned for a quick sound clip and video in the next few days from the session.

Keep on Keepin' on!

PS: folks who have signed up for the quartet package are more than welcome to sit in for tomorrow's session. Send me an email and I'll give you the details!

Become a partner in the production of my new CD “Meditations”

Be a Part of the my new solo CD “Meditations”

The time has come to record my new solo CD. I’ve actually already made one day of recording and will have the recording finished in early April. As most of my musician friends and fans know the recording process is never cheap. This current project is a bit less expensive than other projects I‘ve done in the past but even with the lower overhead this project’s budget is about $6000, which includes recoding equipment and fees, hall rental, engineer fees, licensing fees, mastering, artwork and duplication. But it will all be worth it in the end, as we will no doubt end up with a wonderful recording of a new concept I have been working on for a long time.

Being an independent recording artist who’s already recorded two compact discs I am financing this record in all the usual ways: mostly my own money, grant money, the kindness of friends and family, etc. But I’ve decided to try something new this time around: micro patronage.

Micropatronage is a system in which the public directly supports the work of others by making donations through the Internet. It relies on the premise that it is easier to find many “patrons” to donate small amounts, rather than a small number of patrons making larger contributions.

To entice you to become a patron, I have come up with some packages that are all unique to this program. Once the CD is complete it will be sold through all the usual channels, but none of these packages will be available after the release date. It is my hope that you will find one of them interesting enough to be willing to donate a small amount of your hard-earned money to help me complete this project.
